Real Estate Advertising on Video

Real estate advertising in today’s marketplace is extremely expensive.  The many different forms of print advertising have a very limited circulation, and therefore, very limited results.

Why not put your properties in movie format, narrated, on the Internet?  Economically speaking, worldwide circulation makes more sense.  It’s like holding an open house 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Real Estate on Video is a tool available to Realtors® and people who want to sell their own homes.  Our rates are very competitive and in the long run could save thousands of advertising dollars.  Our audience on the World Wide Web is much larger than printed advertising could ever reach.  This method of advertising is not aimed at just sellers, but attracting buyers as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use video?
From excerpts from an article titled "YouToo Can YouTube" by Michael Antoniak published in the July 2008 issue of Realtor® Magazine, a couple sales pros were quoted.

Kevin Marciniak, sale associate and tour builder with RE/MAX Realty 100 in Milwaukee says, "Photos are still a great marketing tool, but video can give buyers a real feel for the layout and flow of the house."

Charlie Young, chief operating officer for Coldwell Banker in Parsippany, N.J.observed, "Consumers have gotten use to watching video on the Web, we're using video extensively to provide buyers and sellers with the kind of information we know they're out on the Internet gathering."

In another related article by the same author titled"Now Showing", "Today, a video tour is on the leading edge," says TJ Tutor, a specialist in luxury homes with Coldwell Banker Prime Properties in Fayetteville, N.Y. "But five years from now, buyers will be demanding it."
How much is it going to cost?
Well, the initial sign up is completely FREE! until you have entered all the advertising details for your property, produced your video and the property is ready to display on the Internet. Once your property is ready to display live on the Internet, the rate is $9.95 per month per ad slot. We will also be offering a video only hosting package in the very near future. Cost for this will be $4.95 per month.
Sounds inexpensive, how come?
Whether you are selling a $20,000 manufactured home or a multi-million dollar mansion, we wanted to make the service as affordable as possible for everyone,
What do I get for this fee?
You get complete property details in real terms, not the confusing abbreviations that some sites use and leave potential buyers scratching their head. You get up to 16 still pictures, up to a ten minute video walk thru of the property and you get a map showing where the property is at and which includes an interactive toggling of local points of interest.
How about High Definition (HD) videos?
At this time, we don't offer HD service, but we certainly have plans for offering this option in the future. Due to increased bandwidth use, it will most likely be an add-on option with extra fees involved.
Why should I use your service. Why can't I put my video on one of the free services such as YouTube?
You can. Don't be suprised if you receive a call late at night from a client complaining because they have seen videos of questionable content displayed next to the video of their home. This happened to one of the Reartors® associated with this site. The main reason Real Estate on Video™ was created.
Do you offer support for the 3G network cell phones (smart phones) such as the iPhone from AT&T, Palm Pre from Sprint for examples?
Absolutely! When your uploaded video is sent to the encoding service, on top of the regular encoding to Flash (.flv), we also encode your video to .3gp format (this is the standard for all 3G phones) as well as .m4v (see next question).

If the cell phone is Flash enabled, they will be able to view the site and videos normally. If the phone is not Flash capable such as the iPhone, instead of the video player, the site will display a link instructing the visitor to click here and it will play the video in the phones media player.

Right now, if the phone is not Flash enabled, the slideshow will not display, but we will be adding static slideshow functionality in the near future where the phone user can click a link and view the still images.

The interactive map is pure and simple a Flash application and consequently if the phone isn't Flash capable, sorry.

This service is totally exciting as this will allow the home buyer to pull up in front of your property, access the property on our website and watch a video walk-thru while parked in front of the house. Way Cool!!
How about iTunes or iPods?
Underneath the video, there is a link to download the video that was encoded with the .m4v extension to allow playing the video in QuickTime, iTunes or synching to your iPod.

This download format was chosen as the default because the QuickTime player is a free download that is available to virtually any computer operating system. Also, this is the format that iTunes/iPods use.
I have my own video camera, can I shoot my own movies?
Absolutely! This is by far the most cost effective way to do video walk thru movies. However, be leary of using the video feature that comes with many digital cameras. In most cases, they won't give you the initial quality needed to create a good finished video.
I have my own video camera, what are some things I need to do in preparation?
We have compiled a list of things to do which will make your video more "professional" without having a professional videographer shoot your video. Click Here to see this list.
What software would I need to produce my own videos?
Chances are, the software that came with your video camera (Nero, Pinnacle, etc.) will do the job quite nice. If you are using a Windows based computer running XP or Vista, Movie Maker, which has a fairly easy learning curve and is already installed on your computer does a really good job. To ensure consistent quality with the videos on our site, we do the necessary en-coding conversion into an Adobe Flash format.
What file format does my movie need to be in?
After you have done any editing, narrations, etc., save your finished movie in any one of the popular movie formats such as .wmv, .avi or .mpg. The native default size of most "home" video cameras is 720 x 480 and if you can save it at that size and keep it under 128MB in size, that would be perfect. Minimum screen size would be 640 x 480. Bottom line, make sure the total video size is less than 128MB. You can then upload your video yourself to our web server where the movie will be transferred to our encoding service who will re-encode the movie to Flash Video (.flv).
I need someone to take my video and pictures for me. How do I find someone and how much is it going to cost me?
For now, "let your fingers do the walkin'" as the saying goes and consult your local Yellow Pages.

If you are located in the southern half of Oregon, Real Estate On Video can be contracted to shoot your videos.

Our service includes the following:
  • Film the video.
  • Shoot 16 still pictures.
  • Do any editing that needs to be done to the video and the still photos.
  • Do a voice over narration of the video.
  • Upload the still photos and video to your web sheet.
All this for the low price of $119.00. Please note that depending on location, mileage fees may apply.
